A lot has been happening on Nice Roots Farm since the start of spring!
Last Saturday we hosted our second garden workshop of the year. Participants learned about planting schedules and went home with a swiss chard transplant to plant. Thank you to everyone who came out!
Our next workshop will be held Saturday, April 26th when we will discuss pest identification and different methods of controlling these pests in your home or community garden.
With no frost in the foreseeable forecast we have begun to set out spring transplants! Earlier this week volunteers, Kim and Carol, helped me plant collards, kale, kholarabi, and brocalli in our new beds behind the building. Now is the time to set out these cold hardy plants and others including beets, turnips, carrots, onions, and potatoes. Just be sure to monitor the weather for the next few weeks and cover them up with a row cover or bed sheet at night if the temperature is predicated to drop below freezing.
Transplants, seeds, row cover, and seed starting supplies are all currently available at our Nice Roots Farm Store now open from 2-4 on Tuesday and Thursdays. If you would like to purchase garden supplies, but can not make it during regular hours please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org to set up a time to come. As it warms we will be extending the hours of the store!
We look forward to seeing you soon and happy gardening!
