Carla Clanagan, Share’s Montgomery County Program Director, has been appointed to the inaugural leadership team of Montgomery County’s newly formed Food Policy Council. She was also named an associate member of the Montgomery County Commission for Women.

According to the U.S. Dept. of Labor, food costs have risen 27% in the last five years. Inflation, coupled with the end of several pandemic-era benefits, has pushed more families to charitable food networks. The alarming trend has led Share and dozens of other anti-hunger allies to call on Pennsylvania’s leaders to prioritize policies that combat food insecurity.

Share Food Program welcomed 200 volunteers from organizations across the region, including Governor Josh Shapiro and First Lady Lori Shapiro. Joining the governor and his family were State Representatives Morgan Cephas, Danilo Burgos, and Roni Green, City Commissioner Lisa Deeley, members of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, a group of individuals from Drexel University, as well as many other community volunteers.

Share Food Program received a $30K grant from ACME Markets Foundation’s Breakfast for Kids program. The grant will be used to continue Share’s work of providing healthy meals to kids who need them all summer long. In summer 2023, Share offers breakfast and lunch for kids in partnership with 15 total clients, representing 8 schools and summer camps across 7 school districts in 5 counties.

Gov. Shapiro is calling for $38.5 million to continue the state’s Universal Free Breakfast Program for 1.7 million PA kids and cover the full cost of lunches for 22,000 students who qualify for reduced-price lunches.
